High Tides and Storm Events

Detailed Description

On March 2, 2014, 5-meter-high waves with 15-second periods struck the Republic of the Marshall Islands island chain during spring high tides, causing the largest overwash event since December 18, 2008. The 2008 high surf event overwashed numerous atolls in Micronesia, ruining freshwater supplies and destroying agriculture on approximately 60% of the inhabited islands.
