Larval blacklegged ticks_1

The tiny larvae hatch from the eggs, and are clustered in the environment near where the eggs were laid.  A female typically lays one or two thousand eggs, so there can be large numbers of larvae in a single spot.  The larvae generally do not carry the bacteria that cause Lyme disease.
