Lava in fissure 8 fountains to heights of 50 m (about 160 ft), as measured during the overnight hours. The fountain pulses, sending a shower of hot lava fragments over the rim of the cinder cone, building it slightly higher and broader. Fissure 8 continues to feed lava into a well-established channel that enters the ocean at Kapoho.
