Fresh-water discharge salinity relations in the tidal Delaware River

Sustained flows of fresh water greater than 3,500, 4,400, and 5,300 cubic feet per second into the Delaware River estuary at Trenton, NJ assure low salinity at League Island, Eddystone, and Marcus Hook, respectively. When the discharge at Trenton is less than these critical values, salinity is very sensitive to change in discharge, so that a relatively small decrease in fresh-water discharge resul

Effects of agricultural conservation practices on the hydrology of Corey Creek basin, Pennsylvania, 1954-60

Analyses of data collected from two small basins in northern Pennsylvania during the period May 1954 to September 1960 indicated that changes in land use and land treatment have affected suspended- sediment discharge from the basins. Extensive land use and land-treatment changes have taken place in the 12.2-square-mile Corey Creek study basin, whereas such changes in the 10.2-square-mile Elk Run b

Reservoirs in the United States

This report summarizes the storage capacities and related data of reservoirs and controlled natural lakes for the contermimous United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Data are given for all storage facilities having a usable capacity of 5,000 acre-feet or more and completed or under construction as of Jan 1, 1963.A descriptive list of reservoirs m the United States comp

Lake Bonneville: Geology and hydrology of the Weber Delta district, including Ogden, Utah

A cooperative investigation to determine the geology of the Weber Delta district, with emphasis on the occurrence and chemical quality of ground water, was made by the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation with the later assistance of the Utah State Engineer in the final preparation of the report. The Weber Delta district covers an area of almost 400 square miles between the Wa

Stream quality in Appalachia as related to coal-mine drainage, 1965

A stream-quality reconnaissance at 318 locations in May 1965 offered the first opportunity for a contemporaneous regional collection and appraisal of water-quality data in Appalachia. The results provide a means of regional comparison of the influence of coal-mine drainage on stream quality at approximately median streamflow. The results disclose that the chemical quality of the water at nearly 20

Developing a state water plan: Ground-water conditions in Utah, spring of 1966

This report is the third in a series of annual reports that describe ground-water conditions in Utah. Reports in this series are prepared cooperatively by the U.S. Geological Survey and the Utah Water and Power Board and are designed to provide data to enable interested parties such as legislators, administrators, and planners to keep abreast of changing ground-water conditions. This report, like t

Bibliography of U.S. Geological Survey water-resources reports for Utah

This bibliography contains a complete listing to December 1966 of reports relating to the water resources of Utah prepared by personnel of the U.S. Geological Survey. Discussions of the related subjects of geology, hydrology, and chemical quality of the water are included in many of the reports. The reports were, for the most part, prepared by personnel assigned to the Water Resources Division, Ut

Water from bedrock in the Colorado Plateau of Utah

The bedrock aquifers in the Colorado Plateau of Utah supply water that ranges widely in chemical quality and yield. The range of dissolved solids in 649 samples collected from 534 wells, springs, and water-yielding mine tunnels was from less than 100 to more than 390.000 ppm (parts per million). The yield of wells ranged from less than 1 to 54,000 barrels of water per day (less than 1 to 1,600 gal

Ground-water resources of selected basins in southwestern Utah

The purpose of this investigation was to correlate the results of past studies in parts of five developed basins in southwestern Utah and to give a unified concept of ground-water conditions in the entire area. The area of investigation comprises about 3,600 square miles in Washington, Iron, Beaver, and Millard Counties, including the five developed basins - Beaver, Cedar City, and Parowan Valleys

Systems for monitoring and digitally recording water-quality parameters

Digital recording of water-quality parameters is a link in the automated data collection and processing system of the U.S. Geological Survey. The monitoring and digital recording systems adopted by the Geological Survey, while punching all measurements on a standard paper tape, provide a choice of compatible components to construct a system to meet specific physical problems and data needs. As man

Geohydrologic use of lithofacies maps in glaciated areas

Subsurface conditions may differ considerably from conditions indicated by surficial geologic maps, particularly in glaciated areas. Therefore, it is advantageous to use a series of lithofacies maps as a sequence of overlays plotted on transparent paper. Such maps permit direct visual determination of the lithology and areal extent of aquifers and indicate areas of possible stream losses or gains.
