MENLO PARK, Calif. — The earthquake rate has dramatically increased in the central United States in the last six years. Oklahoma had more magnitude 3 or greater earthquakes in 2014 than California. This increase is due to earthquake activity induced by oil and gas operations, yet most earthquakes are not caused by hydraulic fracturing. Given that these earthquakes are manmade, we may be able to control them.
