Science Datasets

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Conceptual salt marsh units for wetland synthesis: Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, New Jersey

The salt marsh complex of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (EBFNWR), which spans over Great Bay, Little Egg Harbor, and Barnegat Bay (New Jersey, USA), was delineated to smaller, conceptual marsh units by geoprocessing of surface elevation data. Flow accumulation based on the relative elevation of each location is used to determine the ridge lines that separate each marsh unit...

Magnetotelluric data, Southern San Luis Valley, Colorado, 2006: Station 7

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2006 in the Southern San Luis Valley, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including MT surveys, in the San Luis Valley to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits comprising the principal groundwater...

Acoustic Doppler current profiler velocity data collected in the approach channel of Brandon Road Lock and Dam in 2015

Water velocities were measured in the Des Plaines River from approximately river mile 286 to river mile 284 on October 19–21, 2015 using Teledyne Rio Grande 1200 kHz acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCP). The data were georeferenced with differential GPS receivers with submeter accuracy. These velocity data were collected in support of the US Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes...

2-meter Swath interferometric backscatter data collected in 2014 by the U.S. Geological Survey along the Delmarva Peninsula, MD and VA (8-bit GeoTIFF, UTM Zone 18N, WGS 84)

The Delmarva Peninsula is a 220-kilometer-long headland, spit, and barrier island complex that was significantly affected by Hurricane Sandy. A U.S. Geological Survey cruise was conducted in the summer of 2014 to map the inner continental shelf of the Delmarva Peninsula using geophysical and sampling techniques to define the geologic framework that governs coastal system evolution at storm-...

MODFLOW-NWT 2016 groundwater flow model for Dane County, Wisconsin

A new groundwater flow model was created for Dane County, Wisconsin, to replace an earlier model
developed in the 1990s by the Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey (WGNHS) and the
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). This modeling study was conducted cooperatively by the WGNHS,
the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission, and the USGS. Although the overall conceptual...

HYPACK ASCII navigation files collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in the Madison Swanson and Steamboat Lumps Marine Protected Areas, Gulf of Mexico in 2000 (Geographic, WGS 84)

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) mapped approximately 22 square miles of the Madison Swanson Marine Protected Area (MPA) and Steamboat Lumps MPA, which are located on the Florida shelf edge in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico in 2000 using sidescan sonar and high-resolution chirp seismic-reflection systems. This survey was conducted as part of a larger study of the effectiveness of no-fishing...
