Science Datasets

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Digital image mosaic of the nearshore coastal waters of Diamond Head on the island of O'ahu generated using aerial photographs and SHOALS airborne lidar bathymetry data

This portion of the data release contains a digital image mosaic with 1.0 foot-per-pixel (0.3048 meter-per-pixel) resolution of the Diamond Head area on the southeast coast of O'ahu. This image mosaic was generated using digitized 1:10K natural color photographs collected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Ocean Service. Also available is a lower-re

Transient electromagnetic (TEM) sounding data; San Luis Valley, Colorado, 2007

Transient electromagnetic (TEM) soundings were made in the San Luis Valley, Colorado, to map the location of a blue clay unit as well as to investigate the presence of suspected faults. A total of 147 soundings were made near and in Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, an additional 6 soundings were made near Hansen Bluff on the eastern edge of the Alamosa National Wildlife Refu

Water-level, wind-wave, velocity, and suspended-sediment concentration (SSC) time-series data from Liberty Island (station LVB), Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California, 2015-2017

Water depth, turbidity, and current velocity time-series data were collected in Liberty Island from 2015 to 2017. Depth (from pressure) and velocity were measured in high-frequency (8 Hz) bursts. Burst means represent tidal stage and currents, and burst data can be used to determine wave height, period, and direction, and wave-orbital velocity. The turbidity sensors were calib

Photographs from the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia (Big Levels region)

This dataset contains photographs keyed to station points along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. Photographs are titled and arranged by 7.5-minute quadrangle, and station points are located in the "Detailed geologic mapping geodatabase for the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia." The first part of the photograph's filename corresponds to the FieldID attribute of the PhotoPoints entity in t

Name, location, and length of sediment cores collected in 2014 from the northern flank of Monterey Canyon, offshore California

This part of the data release is a spreadsheet including the name, location, and length of sediment cores collected in 2014 in Monterey Canyon. It is one of five files in this U.S. Geological Survey data release that include data from a set of sediment cores acquired from the continental slope, north of Monterey Canyon, offshore central California. Vibracores and push cores were collected

Groundwater Levels in the Equus Beds Aquifer near Wichita, Kansas, January 2016 (deep point measurements shapefile)

This dataset is the result of measurements of groundwater levels in the Equus Beds aquifer near Wichita, Kansas, in January 2016. Potentiometric surfaces are interpolated for the shallow and deep parts of the aquifer, and rasters of the potentiometric surfaces are included in this data release. Wells were classified as being screened in the shallow or deep parts of the aquifer based on stat...

Title: Location of select depressional wetlands at Saint Marks National Wildlife Refuge where water level monitoring was conducted: July 2010 - September 2015

This dataset contains the approximate location of monitored wetlands. Date were collected with a Garmin GPS map62. These locations correspond to wetlands that were instrument with hydrologic monitoring equipment. The mention of firm, product, or trade names is done so for informative purposes only and does not constitute and recommendation or endorsement by the federal government.

Magnetotelluric data, Southern San Luis Valley, Colorado, 2006: Station 22

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2006 in the Southern San Luis Valley, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including MT surveys, in the San Luis Valley to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits comprising the principal groundwater

Summary Metadata for Inventory of rock avalanches in western Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, Alaska

The effects of climate change have the potential to impact slope stability. Negative impacts are expected to be greatest at high northerly latitudes where degradation of permafrost in rock and soil, debuttressing of slopes as a result of glacial retreat, and changes in ocean ice-cover are likely to increase the susceptibility of slopes to landslides. In the United States, the greatest incre...

Radionuclide and Pesticide data for sediment age and source analysis in the Midwest Stream-Quality Assessment Region (2013-2014)

A study examining the sources and ages of fine-grained bed material (<0.063 mm) was conducted for 99 sites in the USGS NAWQA Midwest Stream Quality Assessment (MSQA) during the summer of 2014, including 15 suspended sediment and 5 cropland top soil samples. Bed material samples were analyzed for radionuclides (7Be, 210Pbex, 137Cs) and pesticides (bifenthrin and DDE); s
