Science Datasets

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

Greater White-Fronted Goose Genetic Data, Circumpolar, 1988-2009

This data set describes nuclear microsatellite genotypes derived from eight autosomal loci (BCA6, BCA9, BCA11, BCA5, CRG, OXY13, TSP1.20.09 and TSP1.20.46) and a 366 base pair portion of the mitochondrial control region. A total of 665 Greater White-fronted Geese were examined by genotyping and 518 by sequencing with samples coming from its circumpolar range representing multiple flyways (...

Water Level Data in the Lloyd and North Shore Aquifers, April-May 2016

This point shapefile consists of digital points that represent water level altitudes in the Lloyd and North Shore aquifers of Long Island, New York. The U.S. Geological Survey measured 55 observation wells and 5 supply wells screened in the Lloyd aquifer and the contiguous and hydraulically connected North Shore aquifer. This point shapefile is a digital representation of the water levels...

Depth to Water Data in the Upper Glacial and Magothy Aquifers, April-May 2016

The depth to water table was measured at 276 groundwater monitoring wells (observation and supply) screened in the upper glacial and Magothy aquifers during April and May of 2016. This shapefile consists of the locations of those sites where water levels were measured and includes depth-to-water values which are stored in the attribute table. The shapefile was created and intended for use with...

Water Table Data in the Upper Glacial and Magothy Aquifers, April-May 2016

Water level altitudes were measured at 275 observation wells and 1 supply well screened in the upper glacial and Magothy aquifers during April and May of 2016. This shapefile consists of the locations of those sites and includes water level altitude data stored in the attribute table. The shapefile was created and intended for use with geographic information system (GIS) software. The...

USGS Benchmark Glacier Mass Balance and Project Data

Since the late 1950s, the USGS has maintained a long-term glacier mass-balance program at three North American glaciers. Measurements began on South Cascade Glacier, WA in 1958, expanding to Gulkana and Wolverine glaciers, AK in 1966, and later Sperry Glacier, MT in 2005. Additional measurements have been made on Lemon Creek and Taku glaciers, AK to compliment data collected by the Juneau...

Sediment Data for Samples Collected in 2015, 2016, and 2017 from Coastal Louisiana

Data release doi:10.5066/F71G0KKD associated with this metadata record serves as an archive of sediment data for samples collected in 2015, 2016, and 2017 from coastal Louisiana. In 2015 and 2016, sediment grab samples (N=874) were collected coast-wide along shore-perpendicular transects that included back-barrier, emergent (beach and barrier island), shoreface, and nearshore environments....
