Science Datasets

The data collected and the techniques used by USGS scientists should conform to or reference national and international standards and protocols if they exist and when they are relevant and appropriate. For datasets of a given type, and if national or international metadata standards exist, the data are indexed with metadata that facilitates access and integration.

National Assessment of Oil and Gas - Cotton Valley Group and Travis Peak-Hosston Formation Assessment Units, Western Gulf and East Texas Basin and Louisiana-Mississippi Salt Basins Provinces (047, 048 and 049)

The Assessment Unit is the fundamental unit used in the National Assessment Project for the assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The Assessment Unit is defined within the context of the higher-level Total Petroleum System. The Assessment Unit is shown here as a geographic boundary interpreted, defined, and mapped by the geologist responsible for the province and incorporates a...

Quaternary Fault and Fold Database of the United States

The Quaternary Fault and Fold Database contains the results of thousands of scientific assessments of faults and associated folds in the United States that demonstrate geologic evidence for coseismic surface deformation in the Quaternary (the past 1,600,000 years). The Quaternary Fault and Fold Database includes information on the age of the most recent coseismic surface deformation, relative...

National Land Cover Database (NLCD) 2001 Land Cover Conterminous United States

The National Land Cover Database 2001 land cover layer for mapping zones 01-66 was produced through a cooperative project conducted by the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics (MRLC) Consortium. The MRLC Consortium is a partnership of federal agencies (www.mrlc.gov), consisting of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric...

North Santiam River Temperature Model

USGS personnel constructed, calibrated, and tested a model of flow and water temperature in the North Santiam and Santiam Rivers, Oregon. These rivers are major tributaries to the Willamette River, and have been listed as impaired by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) due to water temperatures that exceed the Oregon State water-quality standard.

Willamette River and Long Tom River Dye Study

As part of the U.S. Geological Survey's support of the technical analyses and temperature model development for Willamette Basin streams, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) personnel carried out four dye studies in Willamette Basin streams in 2002.

Willamette River Tributary Width Surveys

Measurements of the surface width of the Willamette River's largest tributaries were included in this project in order to provide an important check on the water-temperature models being constructed as the foundation for the Willamette temperature Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs).

U.S. Seismic Hazard Maps - 2002 Edition

The 2002 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Seismic Hazard Maps display earthquake ground motions for various probability levels across the United States and are applied in seismic provisions of building codes, insurance rate structures, risk assessments, and other public policy. This update of the maps incorporates new findings on earthquake ground shaking, faults, seismicity%2

High-Latitude Climate Transects

This completed project makes available datasets related to the High-Latitude Climate-Feedback Transects. These datasets cover a wide range of scales, from the entire Arctic circumpolar area, to several regional transects (Alaska, Eastern and Central Siberia), to very detailed ground data for a number of specific study sites.
