When combining lidar and bathymetry datasets the final product is considered a topobathy dataset served as a raster. The topobathy single surface model is important for examining different ecological processes that occur across aquatic and near shore areas.

Bathymetric data are collected with an automatic survey system and processed in a Geographical Information System (GIS). Through interpolation the individual points of water depth are converted into a water depth map.

Land Water Shape Files

Land/water is one of the classification attributes in the land cover/use data sets created by UMESC from aerial photography. These data are redistributed here as shape files with the boundaries of the region's 1:24,000-scale USGS quadrangles added to the data.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers use a river mile measuring scheme to locate features on the Mississippi River. Two digital version of these data are available, one created by UMESC from stored on USGS quadrangles, and one created by the Scientific Assessment and Strategy Team (SAST) project.

The Aquatic Area data sets were created by the Upper Midwest Environmental Sciences Center to identify areas of similar aquatic habitat, based primarily on large-scale geomorphic characteristics.

Data is available for viewing by selecting the layer list button described below, and checking the boxes next to the data layers of interest. There are other tools that allow map creation, distance and area measurements, and drawing tools.

Fisheries, water quality, vegetation, and invertebrates have all been sampled. Geographic locations were collected for all sampling points.
