Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature

Planetary nomenclature is used to uniquely identify a feature on the surface of a planet or satellite so that the feature can be easily located, described, and discussed.

See the FAQ for more information on common questions.

For general inquiries regarding planetary nomenclature or the Gazetteer website, please contact Tenielle Gaither by emailing tgaither@usgs.gov.

Planetary Image Locator Tool (PILOT)

PILOT (Planetary Image Locator Tool) is an online data portal used by planetary scientists and cartographers to search through the raw archives of the PDS Cartography and Imaging Science Node. It searches through a large catalog of visual, infrared and spectrometer camera images taken of planetary bodies in our solar system. For information on specific missions, please visit the Data Portal.

USGS Domestic Continuous (Unconventional) Oil & Gas Assessments, 2000-Present

Interactively explore assessment summary information for continuous (unconventional) assessments conducted at the USGS from 2000-2018. The assessment results data used to generate this visualization can be downloaded here in Excel Format.  These data represent all assessment results for Continuous Assessments only from 2000-2018.

Land Treatment Exploration Tool

The Land Treatment Exploration Tool is designed for resource managers to use when planning land treatments. The tool provides useful summaries of environmental characteristics of planned treatment areas and facilitates adaptive management practices by comparing those characteristics to other similar treatments within a specified distance or area of interest.  Provisional Software.

What is a Shift-Adjusted Rating?

Stage-discharge relationships (ratings) are primarily developed from a graphical analysis of multiple streamflow measurements. Measurements are generally made on 8-week intervals. The frequency/interval of streamflow measurements may change based on a variety of circumstances including (but not limited to) flow conditions and rating definition.

Drip Calculator: How Much Water Does a Leaking Faucet Waste?

Check your faucets at home -- do any of them drip? Well, maybe it's just a small drip -- how much water can a little drip waste? True, a single drip won't waste much water, but think about each faucet in your home dripping a little bit all day long. What if every faucet in every home on your block ... in your town ... in your state also dripped?

North American Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Digital Reference Collection (NAAMDRC)

Aquatic invertebrates are a key component of freshwater ecosystems, and an understanding of aquatic invertebrate taxonomy is central to freshwater science. The North American Aquatic Macroinvertebrate Digital Reference Collection (NAAMDRC) was created by the USGS Aquatic Experimental Lab (AXL) to provide users with high-quality digital microscopy photographs.

Flood Database for Colorado

An easy-to-use, Web-based geodatabase of historical flood and paleoflood information which includes links to sources of flood data.  The interface makes this collection of information useful to water-resource managers to better understand the historic events for improved flood-frequency estimates of the largest floods in Colorado.

Identifying Changes in Background Water-Quality Conditions, Arkansas River and Fountain Creek, Colorado

Web based application to compare, on a real-time basis, estimated dissolved-solids concentration and load as a surrogate for water-quality conditions in the Arkansas River and Fountain Creek in Colorado and determine whether future water-quality conditions are significantly different from background conditions.
