Welcome to the Midwest Region! Our Region includes 19 Science Centers in 12 states from the Great Lakes to the Dakotas, south to Missouri and Kentucky. Our stream gage network is used to monitor and assess water resources across the Region. Other research includes fisheries and aquatic ecosystems, mid-continental plant/animal species, invasive species, wildlife disease, and energy and mining.

Ontogenetic changes in routine and maximum swimming speeds of bighead, grass, and silver carp larvae. Daily measurements of routine swimming speed were taken for two weeks post-hatch using a still camera and the LARVEL program, a custom image-analysis software.

Gary Moore spent the last three days of 2015 stacking hefty bags of sand in front of a fellow church member’s brick home.
