Town Hall - Delivering Actionable Science for a Changing World
Led by USGS Director David Applegate
Tuesday, December 10th, at 6:00 pm in Salon I (Convention Center)
Every day across the nation and around the world, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) provides non-regulatory, non-advocacy science that informs decisions on a wide range of complex environmental, natural resource, and public safety challenges. As the science arm of the US Department of the Interior, the USGS brings to bear a uniquely broad mix of transdisciplinary expertise through our workforce and external partners. We are committed to delivering actionable information that reaches the communities most in need. This hybrid USGS Town Hall will involve short presentations by a small panel of USGS senior leaders, followed by questions from the audience. The presenters will focus on recent examples of how local, State, National, and global decision makers rely on USGS science.
Session - USGS Science Contributes to Many Facets of National Security at Home and Abroad
Led by USGS Director David Applegate
Thursday, December 12th, at 10:23 am in Independence D (Marriott Marquis)
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) provides impartial scientific information to address environmental, natural resource, and public safety issues, all of which are increasingly relevant to national security. By supplying geological data and environmental remote sensing products, the USGS supports the Department of Defense in protecting ecosystems and resources and managing risks from various hazards. Additionally, collaborations with organizations like USAID enhance global security through humanitarian efforts, including drought monitoring and disaster response.
