Alan Rea, P.E.

Alan Rea is a hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey's National Geospatial Program, and is the Co-lead and Chief Scientist for the National Hydrography Dataset.

Biography

Al Rea received dual B.S. degrees in Agricultural Engineering and Soil Science from Oregon State University in 1986, and an M.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering, with a minor in Statistics, from Oregon State University in 1988. He is registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Oklahoma. He worked as a hydrologist and geographic information systems specialist for the U.S. Geological Survey in Oklahoma City from 1989 to 1999, and in Boise, Idaho since 1999. Prior to becoming co-lead for the National Hydrography Dataset in 2014, Al was a member of the national development teams for StreamStats (http://streamstats.usgs.gov) and the National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus). Al has specialized in developing techniques for raster data processing, and particularly for the integration of elevation and hydrographic data.
