Lance Everette earned a B.S. in wildlife ecology and natural history from The Evergreen State College in 1994. Since joining the USGS in 1996, he has studied the feeding ecology and behavior of bats and development of data and information management systems for wildlife researchers. He is currently a member of the USGS Web Reengineering Team (WRET) assisting USGS web site owners with data, software, publication and science content management.

Bats are essential to the health of our natural world. They help control pests and are vital pollinators and seed-dispersers for countless plants. Bat populations are in trouble, however. Since 2006, more than 5 million bats have died due to a fungal disease called White-nose Syndrome (WNS).

The Arizona bird count data release includes a CSV file with survey and site location data, including latitudes and longitudes for each site location. All codes and acronyms from the data are defined in the metadata, with the exception of a list of 4 letter species acronyms for which there is a key included as an attachment on the ScienceBase page.
USGS Southwest Repeat Photography Collection: Kanab Creek, southern Utah and northern Arizona, 1872-2010
This data release contains data, repeat images, and field notes collected from 80 repeat photography stakes along Kanab Creek 1872 and 2010. The Kanab Creek repeat photography collection is part of the USGS Southwest Repeat Photography Collection assembled over decades by USGS scientists Drs. Robert H. Webb and Raymond M. Turner and curated by the Southwest Biological Science Center.
The data archive contains the aerial photographs and channel delineations used in our analysis. The images have been geo-referenced to the 1995 digital orthophoto quarter quadrangles as described by Miller and Friedman (2009). The channel delineations for all photo years (including 2003) and the delineation of the outer flood-plain boundary are stored as shapefiles.
This USGS data release includes complete CSDGM metadata, a digitized set of original bathythermogram print photos, and the temperature and depth data collected from each bathythermograms using open-source software. In addition, because of their historical value and potential future use, this data release includes the cruise logs, which include complementary nautical and research notes.

The Bat Population Database compiles various components of bat population data from 1855-2001, particularly counts of bats at colony locations, location attributes, and a complete bibliography of bat publications (published literature, theses and agency reports, and State agency files) for the U.S. and Territories.
