Brandy N Armstrong

I enjoyed working in the challenging and diverse field of oceanography at the USGS Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center, but transferred within the USGS to the Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility in September of 2014 to be closer to family.

My 10+ years of experience include: Developing and automated system for daily coupled ocean and wave forecast modeling using the COAWST system in a cluster/linux environment. Storage, manipulation, and analysis of large, 4-D data sets using THREDDS, ftp, matlab, Perl, ArcGIS, NetCDF and other technology. Scientific, technical and open file reports, webpages and web reports, including experience with Dreamweaver, Adobe products, and Google Map mashups. Programming in Matlab, Python, Fortran, Perl and other languages, self-taught as needed. Field technician, instrumentation, planning, maintenance, programming, operation, and assembly; deployment and retrieval of moorings; data processing and management. Managing field operations at a remote research facility, managing marine science teaching assistants and laboratories at the university level, and navigating state and federal paperwork for purchasing, travel and daily operations.
