Mark Schmeeckle
Biography
I was an assistant, associate, and full professor at Arizona State University and Florida State University before joining the USGS. My general interests are in geomorphology, sediment transport, turbulence, and river mechanics. My primary focus is the interaction of turbulence and the motion of sediment in rivers. To attack these problems I conduct laboratory investigations in flumes using high-speed video, PIV, LDV, ADV, and other accoustic techniques. I also conduct numerical investigations applied at field and laboratory scales using granular and cumputational fluid dynamics techniques using parallel algorithms on supercomputers.
