Nancy Baumgartner

Nancy Baumgartner has been the USGS Deputy Ethics Counselor since January 2004. The Ethics Office provides guidance, information and training to USGS employees and volunteers. Our work helps ensure compliance with ethics statutes, regulations and policies, including restrictions on the financial interests and outside activities of USGS employees.

Biography

Prior to coming to USGS, Nancy was a Deputy Ethics Officer at the Department of Homeland Security and an Ethics Attorney with the Department of the Army. She was a civilian Attorney-Advisor with the Department of the Air Force from 1999 to 2002. Nancy was a Senior Attorney with the National District Attorneys Association from 1997 to 1999 and was an Assistant States Attorney in Frederick County, Maryland, from 1991 to 1997. She retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel (JAG) in March 2007. She obtained her J.D. at the West Virginia University School of Law in 1983 and a B.S. in History from Towson University, Baltimore, Maryland, in 1977.
