RESTON, Va. — Better recovery of critical minerals from unmined deposits, active mines, existing processing facilities, and legacy mine sites could potentially meet decades of demand, according to a recent report by the USGS.

Study confirms age of oldest fossil human footprints in North America

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — New research reaffirms that human footprints found in White Sands National Park, NM, date to the Last Glacial Maximum, placing humans in North America thousands of years earlier than once thought.

Tribal Engagement Series: Drought in the Colorado River Basin

The USGS is bringing together scientists to develop and strengthen relationships with Indigenous communities and Tribal governments. During the coming year, this interdisciplinary team will conduct multiple drought science open houses and listening sessions in locations across the West.

NEW TNMCorps Mapping Challenge for Ambulances in New Mexico!

We’ve identified one last structure in New Mexico of which there are quite a few no-edit-history points – ambulance services! These are one of the more difficult structures to verify since ambulance services tend to come and go fairly often and can be challenging to research, but we know the TNMCorps volunteers are up to the task!

USGS Updates Mineral Database with Indium Deposits in the United States

ALAMOGORDO – New scientific research conducted at White Sands National Park in New Mexico has uncovered the oldest known human footprints in North America. The discovery reveals evidence of human occupation in the Tularosa Basin beginning at least 23,000 years ago, thousands of years earlier than previously thought.
