The USGS Office of Organizational and Employee Development (OED) serves the educational, informational, training, and development needs of the USGS and other federal agencies. OED provides a wide variety of science and technical, professional, managerial and administrative development opportunities. Classes are held at the National Training Center in Denver, Colorado, and other USGS office locations across the Nation. We also address the organizational needs of the USGS by providing consulting and coaching. We invite you to work with us to help identify science, technical, business and leadership development needs throughout the Bureau.
OED Vision
Igniting excellence in science by developing engaged people, high performing teams and a best place to work.
OED Mission
Support the integrity of USGS Science by developing individuals, groups and the bureau by fostering a learning focused organization that promotes:
• Leadership-centered principles
• Science and technical theory and skills
• Interdisciplinary decision making
• Building successful teams
OED partners and collaborates with USGS managers to address organizational needs through the design and delivery of developmental activities and programs for all employees.
OED Strategic Goals
The primary strategic goals of OED are to enhance the scientific and technical skills of the USGS workforce and foster visionary leadership and management professionalism. This is accomplished through a variety of creative programs, performance support processes and other cost-effective means. The OED is a partner in the Bureau's Human Resources (HR) Enterprise. The intent of the HR Enterprise is to facilitate, coordinate, and integrate capabilities to best support the people, operations, customers and programs of the USGS.
