In the Biochemistry and Physiology Branch, we study how contaminants, hypoxia, and nutrient deficiencies affect aquatic animal health and microbial ecosystem services. Additionally, we are developing Environmental DNA (eDNA) and metabarcoding methods to detect invasive and endangered species and characterize algal communities in aquatic ecosystems.

Early development is a sensitive window for estrogenic endocrine disruption in largemouth bass. Atrazine treatments caused changes to gene expression patterns that were both similar to estrogen and distinct from estrogen.
