Asta Cone as viewed from Kweo Butte
Detailed Description
Atsa Cone as viewed from Kweo Butte on the southern flank of Newberry Volcano (Oregon). Atsa means red (Klamath Tribes), and aptly applies to this very young cinder cone perched on the side of an older cone (Kweo Butte). Asta Cone is in the center of the photograph. The view is toward the south with Rim Butte (first) and Jack Butte (second) in the distance. Note that the vegetation on the cone is mostly brush following on a fire that had burned the trees.
