USGS scientist paddling down a flooded street
Detailed Description
Mike West, a hydrological technician from the CAWSC Ukiah Field Office, paddles over a roadway flooded by Mark West Creek in Sonoma County. Behind his kayak, he is pulling an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), a tool that uses sound waves to determine the area and velocity of water. This is a commonly used method for calibrating streamflow measurments. USGS photo by David Parker.
