Geological Materials Repository

The Geological Material Repository is a centralized USGS repository located on the Denver Federal Center in Colorado. It has three sectors: the Geological Materials Working Collections, the USGS Core Research Center,  and the National Science Foundation Ice Core Facility.

The Geological Materials Working Collections, stores materials from numerous USGS Science Centers and Mission Areas.  The Core Research Center, is home to the largest publicly available USGS rock core and cuttings collection. The National Science Foundation Ice Core Facility allows scientists to conduct examinations and measurements on ice cores, and it preserves the integrity of these ice cores in a long-term repository for future investigations.

Collections Management Trainings

The Geological Materials Repository offers a series of collections management training modules available for anyone in the Survey. Please contact the Geological Materials Repository at geologicalmaterialsrepository@usgs.gov to arrange a training session.
