SPARROW Mapper - Northeast
Modeling nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediments in upland watersheds, tributary streams, and downstream estuaries of the Northeastern U.S.
SPARROW Mapper - Pacific
Modeling streamflow, nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediments in streams and coastal waters of the Pacific U.S.
SPARROW Mapper - Southeast
Modeling streamflow, nitrogen, phosphorus, and suspended sediments in streams and coastal waters of the Southeastern U.S.
SPARROW Mapper - Southwest
Modeling how climate, land use, and landscape characteristics control water availability, nutrients, and suspended sediment in the Southwestern U.S.
SPARROW mappers are interactive tools that allow the user to explore river streamflow and nutrient and sediment loads and yields and the importance of different sources of contaminants in a particular river basin. Data can be visualized using maps and interactive graphs and tables, and rankings can be shown by state, major watershed, hydrologic unit (HUC), and catchment.
2012 Mappers
2012 SPARROW (SPAtially Referenced Regressions On Watershed attributes) mappers are available for 5 regions of the conterminous United States. These mappers simulate streamflow and constituent loads that would occur under long-term average hydrologic conditions, for the time period 1999 through 2014, and source inputs that occurred during or near 2012.
Using the 2012 Mappers
Available data filters on the SPARROW Mappers allow you to view total phosphorus, total nitrogen, suspended sediment, and streamflow.
The "Area of Interest" filter allows you to focus on a selected area (state, major watershed, HUC and catchment), while the "Group Results By" filter allows you to change the way the data is shown.
Modeling results can be exported as an Excel spreadsheet, a CSV file, or a geospatial dataset.

SPARROW mapper source input years
Why 2012 as a base year?
SPARROW models simulate loads that would occur given source inputs for a specific year and flows based on long-term average hydrologic conditions. Simulating long-term average hydrologic conditions allows modeling of large spatial areas without concern for the effects of localized, short-term variability in climatic conditions.
Source input years for the 2002 and 2012 models were chosen to represent the most up-to-date input data that was available at the time these models were initially constructed.
The SPARROW Mappers replace the SPARROW Decision Support System (Booth and others, 2011).
