The Community for Data Integration (CDI) is a community of practice whose purpose is to advance the U.S. Geological Survey’s data integration capabilities. In fiscal year 2025, the Community for Data Integration held 11 monthly forums, facilitated 21 collaboration areas, and supported 15 projects. Through these efforts, community members were informed of new and emerging technologies and data topics that helped them accomplish their professional responsibilities.
At the end of fiscal year (FY) 2025, the CDI had 3,027 members. Members included both USGS employees and USGS contractors, as well as members from academia, non-profits, commercial companies, and other state, federal, and international organizations. The roles that members serve in their organizations include data managers, research scientists, software developers, managers, data scientists, and other practitioners.

Collections Preservation and Management (CPM)
The Collections Preservation and Management (CPM) Community of Practice is designed for everyone involved in collections preservation and management. The community covers a range of topics, including collections management, digitization, and repository operations. The virtual space exists so that members can ask questions, exchange ideas, and collaborate on issues related to collections with peers from different areas of expertise.
Team Science Community of Practice
The Team Science Community of Practice meets approximately monthly to explore and discuss topics related to Team Science at the USGS. Example topics include working across disciplines, team dynamics, harnessing creativity, setting intentional expectations, the science of team science, and leading team science.
