Our mission is to provide scientific understanding, approaches and methods needed to support management, conservation, and restoration of the Nation’s natural resources, with an emphasis on ecosystems of the western U.S. and global applicability. We are a premier source of unbiased and socially relevant scientific information that is used by managers, policy makers, scientists, and the public.
Director's Message
As a biological research center, FRESC conducts ecological research in the amazingly diverse ecosystems of western North America and beyond. Our research increases understanding of how biological systems function, how disturbances and threats affect species and habitats, and which methods most effectively promote restoration, conservation, and other management goals.

The Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center (FRESC) is one of about 90 science centers in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), which in turn is part of the Department of the Interior (DOI).
