Public Webinar on the USGS study results for  Groundwater Quality of Aquifers Overlying the Oxnard Oil Field, Ventura County, California

February 16, 2021

The USGS and State Water Board Oil and Gas Regional Groundwater Monitoring Program are hosting a webinar Friday, February 19 at 10am PT to discuss the scientific findings of the Groundwater Quality of Aquifers Overlying the Oxnard Oil Field, Ventura County, California study.

Recently published findings of a U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) groundwater study near the Oxnard Oil Field shows no evidence of hydrocarbon-bearing formation water mixing into overlying groundwater aquifers. The study, “Groundwater Quality of Aquifers Overlying the Oxnard Oil Field, Ventura County, California,” was conducted as part of a State Water Resources Control Board (State Water Board) regional groundwater monitoring program in areas of oil and gas production and was released in the journal Science of the Total Environment.

Due to the public interest in the scientific findings of this study, the USGS and State Water Board Oil and Gas Regional Groundwater Monitoring Program are hosting a webinar Friday, February 19 at 10am PT.  During the webinar, USGS scientists will answer questions received in advance about the results of the scientific study. To watch the webinar live, please visit the CalEPA Webcast Home Page

If you have questions pertaining to the Oxnard study, please submit them via email in advance by Tuesday, February 16 at 5pm  to OilandGas@waterboards.ca.gov.  Questions about the SWRCB oil and gas monitoring program and related issues will not be addressed in this webinar.
