Drivers, characteristics, and impacts of streamflow drought across the Delaware River Basin

May 21, 2026

This data release contains supporting input data tables and results from analysis to identify and interpret clusters of drought events with similar meteorological and hydrological characteristics in the Delaware River Basin. Input data consists of hydrologic variables from the National Hydrologic Model Infrastructure with Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System, version 1.1 (NHM-PRMS v1.1); population and housing estimates; water use, land cover, and catchment characteristics; and water management metrics of interest from Pywr-DRB, a water management model for the Delaware River Basin. Input datasets are collected at the daily scale across fifteen regions in the study area and included in the data release as csv files in the 1_fetch/out/ folder within the zipped folder drb-extreme-event-risk.zip. The full output of a Pywr-DRB simulation based on NHM-PRMS v1.1 daily streamflow is available in the file pywrdrb_nhmv11.hdf5. Results include a table of all variables for a catalog of drought events (p2_events_variable.csv); a table reporting which features were selected by different feature selection methods (p3_allvars_table.csv); a list of features included in the best subset (p3_bestvars.txt); and a list of cluster assignments for each event (p4_cluster_ids.csv). Furthermore, a model application containing additional outputs, code, and documentation is included in a zipped folder (drb-extreme-event-risk.zip). The model application, along with the software environment information in the file sessionInfo.txt, can be used to recreate the results provided in this data release.
