Geospatial datasets of groundwater recharge potential derived by interpolation of airborne electromagnetic survey data, eastern Nebraska, 2007 - 2022

October 9, 2026

Groundwater recharge potential was mapped using airborne electromagnetic (AEM) survey data collected over the glaciated part of eastern Nebraska. Groundwater recharge potential was mapped by calculating the Vertically integrated connectivity (VIC) for each AEM sounding along 18,000 line-miles of survey data. VIC values were interpolated to produce two versions of groundwater recharge potential maps that include a 500-m cell raster version and a filled contour shapefile version. The 500-m cell raster and a filled contour shapefile of groundwater recharge potential maps were compared to known geologic features, point-estimates of groundwater recharge, and selected water-quality data. The two recharge potential map versions are similar; however, the raster version of the groundwater recharge potential includes more detail, particularly in areas where the groundwater recharge potential varied over short distances.

All data and metadata are available in the child items.
