Hourly Sediment Moisture Content, Salinity, and Temperature Measurements for Madeira Beach, Florida, USA (January 25 – August 31, 2023)

March 27, 2025
This dataset contains hourly moisture content, salinity, and temperature measurements for sediment within a dune profile at Madeira Beach, Florida, USA. The data was collected between January 25, 2023, and August 31, 2023, following impacts from Hurricane Idalia. Data were collected using 5 moisture probes that extended 90 centimeters (cm) below the surface, with sensors spaced 10 cm apart in the vertical dimension from 5 cm to 85 cm below the surface. Meteorological data collected at Madeira Beach during the study period are included to contextualize the moisture probe measurements. The vertical and horizontal position of each moisture probe is included and were measured using a backpack-mounted Global Positioning System (GPS). For more information on GPS survey data collection and processing, refer to the associated U.S. Geological Survey data release by Brown and others (2018).
