Los Angeles River Suspended Sediment Concentration Data, April 2021- November 2023

March 6, 2026

The Los Angeles River flows through a heavily urbanized area and the river is managed for multiple uses, including flood control, habitat, and recreation. The objective of this study was to collect data on stream flow and suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) at sites along the Los Angeles River and its tributaries in the Sepulveda Flood Control Basin (SFCB) to better understand sediment transport and streamflow in the SFCB. This data release reports SSC data for 51 samples collected from 5 sites in the SFCB from April 2021 through November 2023. Most of the samples were collected during storm runoff events because SSCs generally are higher during runoff events than during baseflow conditions. These data originally were intended as a calibration dataset for estimation of SSC from continuous turbidity measurements, however the turbidity data were not successfully collected for this study. The 5 sites are:

USGS-11092450 Los Angeles River below Sepulveda Dam,
USGS-341015118284001 Los Angeles River at Burbank Blvd nr Van Nuys,
USGS-341049118295201 Bull Creek near Van Nuys,
USGS-341105118290201 Woodley Creek near Van Nuys, and
USGS-341105118310601 Los Angeles River at White Oak Blvd.
