MODFLOW 6 model used to evaluate groundwater/surface-water interactions in the Mobile Bay, AL

August 3, 2026

This model archive contains the model files for the Mobile Bay groundwater-flow model documented in the U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2026–5125. The Mobile Bay model simulates transient groundwater flow in Mobile Bay and surrounding coastal areas of Alabama and Mississippi from 2008 through 2015. The primary goal of the model was to determine how changes in recharge, sea level, and groundwater pumping affect groundwater levels and discharge rates within the model domain. Workflows for an initial model run, parameter estimation, and performing a forward run with the best set of base parameters from parameter estimation are included in the model ZIP archives. See the mobile_bay_readme.txt file for instructions.
