Produced water major ion geochemistry from petroleum wells producing from the Smackover Formation in southwestern Alabama

September 16, 2026

This data release contains major ion geochemistry (B, Ba, Br, Cl, Ca, Fe, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Na, Si, SO₄ Sr), total dissolved solids, and specific gravity measurements for produced water samples collected from petroleum wells producing from the Smackover Formation in southwestern Alabama. Analyses were performed at the U.S. Geological Survey Brine Research Instrumentation and Experimental (BRInE) Laboratory in Reston, Virginia. The data release includes three files: a metadata file and two comma-separated value (CSV) data files. These data were collected as part of a research study conducted in partnership with Auburn University and the Geological Survey of Alabama.
