Single-Beam Bathymetry and Sediment Data From Vibracores Collected at Lake Maggiore, St. Petersburg, Florida

August 18, 2026

In July 2025, scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center (SPCMSC) collected single-beam bathymetry (SBES) data and sediment vibracores at Lake Maggiore, St. Petersburg, Florida. These data were collected during USGS field activity number (FAN) 2025-309-FA. The SBES data were collected using USGS research vessel (R/V) MAKO. The elevation point (x,y,z) data are provided in the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83) Universal Transverse Mercator Zone 17 North (UTM 17N) for the horizontal and the North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88) with respect to GEOID18 for the vertical. In addition to the x,y,z elevation point data, tracklines and a 30-meter (m) digital elevation model (DEM) are provided in this data release. A total of five vibracores were collected at three sites, with approximate recovery lengths between 1.28 meters (m) to 2.47 m. Three of the vibracores were collected using an electric vibracorer and two were collected using a mechanical vibracorer. Sediment data acquisition and processing methods were modified from those described in Bernier and others (2024). The purpose of this survey was to collect single-beam bathymetric and sedimentologic data as part of investigations that seek to explore Lake Maggiore's utility as an archive of Holocene and Pleistocene landscape change in the Tampa Bay region.
