USGS National and Global Oil and Gas Assessment Project—United States Federal Lands Oil and Gas Resource Allocations: Federal Lands Fact Sheet Data Tables

June 18, 2025

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) assesses potential volumes of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil and gas resources in the onshore and state water provinces of the United States. Following the quantitative oil and gas assessments, allocations of undiscovered oil, gas, and natural gas liquid resources are calculated for land entities in each assessment unit where surface ownership is Federal. This data release provides machine-readable files of tables found in the USGS Fact Sheet “An Estimate of Undiscovered Technically Recoverable Oil and Gas Resources Underlying Federal lands of the Onshore United States, 2025”. Federal land ownership includes lands classified as Bureau of Land Management (BLM), BLM Wilderness Areas, BLM Roadless Areas, National Park Service (NPS), NPS Wilderness Areas, NPS Protected Withdrawals, US Forest Service (USFS), USFS Wilderness Areas, USFS Roadless Areas, USFS Protected Withdrawals, US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFW), USFW Wilderness Areas, USFW Protected Withdrawals, Wilderness Study Areas, Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Bureau of Reclamation, and Tennessee Valley Authority.
