Combined Sewer Overflow – a designed discharge or overflow of untreated wastewater from a combined sewer system into a nearby stream, river, or other waterbody that occurs when the sewer system becomes overfilled with stormwater during or after heavy rains

(CSO) – a designed discharge or overflow of untreated wastewater from a combined sewer system into a nearby stream, river, or other waterbody that occurs when the sewer system becomes overfilled with stormwater during or after heavy rains

Combined sewer system (CSS)

a one-pipe sewer system designed to carry both stormwater and sewage from bathrooms, sinks, kitchens, and other plumbing components through a single underground pipe; under normal conditions, the contents of the combined sewer system is carried to a wastewater treatment plant where it is filtered, treated, and discharged to a nearby stream, river, or other waterbody
