Observations of offset from shallow aseismic slip on the Concord fault, San Francisco Bay Area, CA

August 20, 2025

The Concord fault is an active strike-slip fault of the Pacific-North America plate boundary that runs through suburban eastern San Francisco Bay Area, Contra Costa County, CA, in the cities of Concord and Walnut Creek. Recent work has identified ongoing aseismic slip along the trace of the fault and clarified its location. The data presented here record evidence of tectonic offsets of the built environment, including point observations, the interpolated fault trace that connects them, and high precision geographic surveys of tectonically offset and deflected curbs used to measure accumulated fault slip.
