Changrui Yuan
Computer Scientist with the Ecoinformatics and Wildlife Technology (ECOTECH) Branch in U.S. Geological Survey Fort Collins Science Center
Changrui is a full-stack developer for Siren: the National Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR) Information System for invasive species. Siren’s multi-disciplinary team of computer scientists, biologists, and researchers supports invasive species practitioners through interactive tools that provide decision-support to local, regional, and national EDRR efforts across the nation. As the information hub of the National EDRR Framework, Siren serves as the online portal and collaboration center that supports this national interagency initiative to strengthen coordination and capacity across jurisdictional boundaries to efficiently detect and respond to new invasive species. The Siren team works closely with federal, state, local, academic, tribal, and territorial partners and end users to provide user-centered, technical solutions that address challenges in data management, information sharing, and planning and prioritizing invasive species detection and response.
Changrui also works on ScienceBase, which is a collaborative scientific data and information management platform used directly by science teams. It provides access to aggregated information derived from many data domains, including feeds from existing data systems, metadata catalogs, and scientists contributing new and original content. The architecture is designed to help science teams and data practitioners centralize their data and information resources to create a foundation needed for their work. ScienceBase, both original software and engineered components, is released as an open source project to promote involvement from the larger scientific programming community both inside and outside the USGS.
