Welcome to CoreFacts, where we're always short on time and big on science. I'm Jessica Robertson. Today's question brings us to your hometown.

Where can I find the temperature or precipitation for my city in the U.S.?

The best place for this sort of information is the National Climatic Data Center, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The NCDC is physically located in Asheville, North Carolina. They have a wide variety of online data available for immediate download, and they also have more extensive data on media like CD-ROM and tape. More information can be found on their web site at www.ncdc.noaa.gov.

And now you know. Join us again every weekday for a new CoreFact. For other CoreFacts, or for CoreCast, our in-depth science podcast, go to usgs.gov/podcasts. If you'd like to have a question featured on our show, give us an email at corefacts@usgs.gov or a phone call at 703-648-5600. Remember, long distance fees do apply.
