June 1990 (approx.)

Detailed Description

This view is looking down from the top of the cliff at Chimney Rock Overlook. Chimney Rock and other sea stacks along this rugged coastline consist of Salinian granitic rocks. (Salinian is the name applied to crystalline basement rocks of Cretaceous and older ages that crop out in the central Coast Ranges of California west of the San Andreas Fault). Chimney Rock is located just offshore of the point south of the Historic Point Reyes Lifeboat Station. Note the sea arch on Chimney Rock.
