A photo of Sunshine Lava Tube.

June 1990 (approx.)

Detailed Description

This view is just inside the entrance to Sunshine Lava Tube (along Cave Loop Road). Note the complex shape of the passage. Swirling molten lava probably helped carve the domes in the roof. The level of lava flowing through the tube dropped significantly before the floor began to congeal into rock along the pathway. In many sections of the lava tubes, the lava on the floor has a froth-like, almost cauliflower-like, texture.
