Bolete Mushroom with Pores

Detailed Description
A bolete mushroom with pores under the cap instead of gills. This is a mature specimen of the candy apple bolete, Exsudoporus frostii. It stains blue when injured and has an interesting stem that is heavily ornamented with an exaggerated, net-like pattern called reticulation.
Specimen found on the Blue Trail at the Long Ridge Conservation Area, Sullivan, Missouri. This image is part of the article Trailheads: Portals to the Fungal Dimension.
