Detailed Description

Heavy rainfall caused record setting flooding in many areas of Pennsylvania in July 2018.  As part of the Flood Monitoring Network, the Swatara Creek streamgage near Hershey PA (Station 01573560), plays a critical role for local EMA early warning systems.  At a stage of 7.00 ft The Swatara Creek reaches flood stage.  During flooding nearby bridges become inundated and unusable for data collection.  On July 25, 2017 the measurement was collected via watercraft at a Stage of 16.58 ft and discharge of 28,800 cfs.   The efforts of Nick Grim (equipment operator) and Cameron Ensor (boat operator) resulted in the highest directly measured discharge by a pair of technicians since the gage was established in 1975.
