Capelin flyer

Capelin, a small forage fish, are spawning on beaches around Alaska and your observations can contribute to our understanding of beach spawning behavior and the health of marine ecosystems. USGS researchers are asking for the public's help and information on spawning capelin on beaches around Alaska from May through September. If possible, researchers would like the public to collect samples of capelin to help understand changes in capelin populations and marine food webs.
