Detailed Description

This cliff and talus slope is located next to the parking area for the Chaco Canyon Visitor Center. The lower part of the slope consists of sandstone, shale, and soft coal (lignite) seams in the Menefee Formation. The massive unit of sandstone at the top of the cliff is the Lower Sandstone Member of the Cliff House Sandstone (NPS, 2004b).
