Detailed Description

 

A cinder cone in the Lava Beds and Cinder Cones Natural Landmark Area in the Mojave National Preserve. The Mojave National Preserve encompasses the Cima Volcanic Field that has an eruptive history beginning about 7.5 million years ago and continuing to near present (about 15,000 years ago) (Dohrenwend, 1990).
