Colorado National Monument - boulders that lie along Rim Rock Drive

Detailed Description

These large, rounded, sandstone boulders lie along Rim Rock Drive about two miles east of the East (Grand Junction) Entrance to Colorado National Monument. Episodic soaking and drying, and freezing and thawing are powerful forces that gradually break down rocks. Rocks can be rounded as they hit other rocks when transported down the hill by water and gravity. Finer materials are abraded by wind, rain, running water.
