January 22, 1890: Colorado River, Grand Canyon, River Mile 65.5, Palisades Creek, across canyon view from river left. This view looks across the upper part of the Palisades Creek debris fan, across the head of Lava Canyon Rapid, and up Lava Canyon. Several sand and cobble bars are apparent, including the large sandbar that appears to go half-way across the river, and marsh vegetation, probably mostly common reed, grows in the right midground. Individual rocks can be discerned in the head of the rapid. Clumps of mesquite are scattered across the midground. Stake no. s1434a in the Southwest Repeat Photography Collection.
