Earth MRI: Earth Mapping Resources Initiative
USGS Mineral Resources Program
Earth MRI is updating the Nation's maps of geology and mineral resources. Earth MRI collects the data needed to identify mineral resources, as well as to evaluate energy and groundwater resources and natural hazards.
Earth MRI data is used to:
- evaluate domestic mineral resources
- find materials to rebuild from natural disasters
- identify geologic hazards
- characterize groundwater resources
- evaluate geologic energy resources
Earth MRI collects multiple types of data for a fuller picture of the Earth and its resources:
- Topography
- Geology
- Geochemistry
- Geophysics
- Borehole information
- and More.
